Microsoft Tips, Tricks, and Updates: Shared Channels in Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams is a powerful tool. It allows Team members to chat, engage in video calls, and work on projects together, all in one place.
Shared channels takes this one step further. Now, users can invite other users to participate in channels from outside their environment (e.g., in other companies).
For example, we have a client that is a holding company for multiple businesses. Using shared channels, those subsidiary businesses can communicate with one another (on an authorized user-by-user basis) without having to switch environments.
Users in shared channels receive notifications as they do with any other team channel, again removing the need to keep switching environments to stay current.
